Fronted from the rear by Jack Kennedy, Velvet Rut steadily pushes itself forward. As the drummer and lead vocalist since the 2001 inception of the group, Jack has the uncanny ability to sing with strength and conviction while never missing a beat. His skills have provided him with the ability to play with other local favorites in his spare time. New member Kai Corns joins the band in 2009 on Guitar with many years of experience. Craig Haughton completes the musical melodies on vocals and on bass.
Original member Michael Kimbrell is currently working on The Smilz and The Electric Illuminati projects, but still plays with the band on ocassion.
Velvet Rut has written music for independent films, Emmy Award winning documentaries and commercials for various clients such as, "Yamaha" and Colorado Springs filmmakers "Watt Imagination!". In the wake of their summer 2005 CD release, "Audiosis", Velvet Rut continues to perform in the Colorado Front Range Region. "Audiosis" is currently in rotation at independent radio stations worldwide and is distributed by the iTunes Music Store, Amazon.com, Best Buy, Cdbaby.com, and Independent Records. Velvet Rut with original member Michael Kimbrell is currently working with Ron English and Jack Medicine as "The Electric Illuminati". Check out the progress of our project, "Songs In English".
Live shows are a special blend of dance, pop and rock-n-roll covers as well as popular originals. They cover a broad range of artists from the 60's to the present and the songs that they play are beyond the range of a standard bar band. Depending on the atmosphere, they can keep the dance floor packed or play softly to allow the crowd to converse and relax. Our keyboardist, Richard is available upon request.
