Fronted from the rear by Jack Kennedy, Velvet Rut steadily pushes itself forward. As the drummer and lead vocalist since the 2001 inception of the group, Jack has the uncanny ability to sing with strength and conviction while never missing a beat. You can catch him around town playing with other local favorites and he is also an expert sound engineer. With a local radio station as one of his clients, He has recorded and produced several concerts for national award winning acts and his work is aired frequently on KRCC. As a full time professional musician, Kai Corns plays guitar and brings many years of experience and is also a regular in the local music scene performing with different groups. The trio is completed with Craig Haughton, the bassist/guitarist/background vocalist, who is also responsible for the overall management of the band.
Velvet Rut has written music for independent films, award winning documentaries, professional sports team stadium anthems and commercials for various clients such as, “Yamaha” and Colorado Springs filmmakers “Watt Imagination!”. Velvet Rut is currently working with world renowned artist Ron English, songwriter Jack Medicine and Michael Kimbrell as “The Electric Illuminati“. Velvet Rut has recently been featured in nationally distributed guitar magazine, “The Guitar Edge” for their continued presence in the mountain region putting on quality shows.
Velvet Rut live shows are a special blend of dance, pop and rock-n-roll covers. They cover a broad range of artists from the 60’s to the present and the songs that they play are beyond the range of a standard bar band. Always aware of the atmosphere and their audience, they can keep the dance floor packed or play softly to allow the crowd to converse and relax. Eight years and hundreds of performances later, Velvet Rut continues to travel throughout the mountain region and neighboring states performing at various events including weddings, private parties, corporate events and clubs to high critical acclaim.
